Based at the gateway to the stunning Yorkshire Dales, Broughton Sanctuary offers a pristinely restored historic house on an estate dating back to 1097, along with a state-of-the-art wellbeing centre, breathtaking studio spaces, a pool suite and dreamy outdoor spots, including a fire temple, a meditation labyrinth, a woodland sauna and a sweat lodge. It's a venue for all types of retreat - from small and intimate, to larger groups, looking for personal development, nature, spiritual, fitness, wellbeing and yoga breaks.

  • There are two glass-fronted studios, with beautiful 180 degree views. Both have surround sound, and one has audio and visual equipment. Utopia, which was designed by Sir Michael Hopkins, is home to meeting rooms and a large workshop space, while the green drawing room is an option for yoga, meditation or talks. As well as a meditation pod, there is a 20m low chemical pool, a hydro-massage pool and sauna and steam rooms. You can relax in the Somadome, on a crystal light bed or in the relaxation rooms and conscious library. There are several therapy rooms, as well as meditation, yoga and Pilates equipment.

  • Set within picturesque woodland, the fire temple is perfect for celebrations, drumming circles, dancing, storytelling and meditation. Quieten your mind by walking the labyrinths - one is a 555-stone spiral Ankh labyrinth, or take a cold water dip in one of the lakes. Combine a sauna session with ice bathing in converted barrels, or visit the sweat lodge for purification. There are plenty of woodlands for forest bathing, and walking trails will take you across heather moorland, along meadow pastures, and by wild reservoirs and meandering rivers. The hermit hut and the Bronze Age cairn are peaceful places to gather your thoughts. There are also moor-top moon baths where you can enjoy a guided moon meditation.

  • The 80 bedrooms in the main house and surrounding retreat homes can accommodate 150 people in beds ranging from four-poster super king beds to singles. Eleven rooms have a king size or double bed, while another 11 are single rooms. All others are twin rooms, many of which can be transformed into doubles. Half the rooms are en-suite, while the rest share a bathroom. There are also camping and glamping options.

  • The red drawing room is a comfortable room where you can relax by an open fire, or you could head to the library where you'll find a collection of books dating back centuries. The conservatory is another peaceful spot where you can sit and relax. Each of the retreat homes has a beautiful living space where you can relax after the day's activities.

  • As well as nature tours, moon bathing, foraging and forest bathing, you can visit the sweat lodge, take a herbal medicine or labyrinth walk, use the Somadone meditation pod, or try bush crafting. Activities include journaling, mindfulness, shamanic drum journeys, gong baths and alchemy crystal bowl sound healing. Yin, vinyasa flow, hatha, kundalini, forest and womb yoga are all offered, and treatments include reflexology, massage, reiki and facials.

  • You can eat in Utopia, a walled garden bistro, or Broughton Hall, where the dining room seats up to 30 people and the green and red drawing rooms seat up to 90. Tailored menus and chefs are available and menus catering for all tastes and diets include a plant-based retreat menu and a fine dining menu - fish and meat options can be added. Breakfast may feature sliced smoked salmon or lime-crushed avocado, while lunch could include sesame hummus and sweet potato and ginger soup. For dinner you could have red lentil and kidney bean chilli or a cajun-spiced hake fillet. You can also dine in a private, candlelit glade in the garden or take a picnic to a spot of your choice.

  • Broughton Sanctuary is converting to renewable energy across all its properties and using air, ground and water sources. An ambitious nature recovery project is underway - 350,000 trees have been planted over 3,000 acres. Some areas have been dedicated to natural regeneration, which will reduce flood risk downstream, improve the water quality, clean up the air and soil, and reduce toxic chemicals and hormones.
